Week 12- initial post

What are the characteristics of an engaging Action Research Report?

As I have worked on this paper I have found that it is not the most interesting thing to write. This helped me realize that if I am not having fun writing it what will the people who read it feel. With this in mind I needed to find a way to make it personal to students, families and teachers. I think my topic innately is relatable schools because the majority of families and teachers want to increase parent involvement.

Another way I can make my action research paper more engaging is make it more than just black writing on a white background. If I was in my own classroom I might take pictures of students engaging in the topic my paper is on. I think it would be fun to take picture of a Remind screen with a message sent out. This would give the reader more of a visual representation of what it is like to send or receive a message through the Remind app.

Action research papers can be made more engaging by getting the reader thinking about how they can incorporate or change they way they use the discussed topic in their own classroom. After reading my paper I hope others would be interested incorporating smart phone applications in the classroom to increase parent involvement and improve communication.

Data analysis
My data analysis is going better this week. I have written my paper up until the data analysis stage. I am planning of completing my paper this week. I have not gotten as much responses to my survey as I would have liked. So far I only have 23. I am worried this won't be enough data, but I can't wait much longer to start completing my paper.

  1. Great idea on adding color and screenshots! I think I will do this also when it comes to the IXL program that I use and the data I get from this program. It does help the reader understand and engage more with the information that is being presented in the action research. Don't worry too much about the surveys! If you note in your action research that there were only 23 surveys and you were hoping for more, it seems more real life! Great work!

  2. Erika,
I find writing this final challenging as well, it did take me a little while to get my thoughts organized. Using the example Dr F used in his announcement helped me get it together. As a parent, I think that Remind app (and other comparable apps like Class Dojo) are great communication tools. Good luck!
